Well….what. a. game. If we could have just ended it at half time. But I guess if a team can come back from being down 25 points, they deserve the win. Regardless, it was an exciting game to watch, and if you are a Patriots fan, congratulations. It is going to take a while for those of us who are Falcons fans to get over it. 🙁
We did have a party, and I did decorate a bit for the occasion. If you follow me on Instagram, see if you can tell any difference in the wreath from my post there on Saturday and this photo on Sunday. 🙂
I took photos as I finished getting areas ready yesterday, and I had planned to post them here right before the game.
But as usual, I was finishing up everything right as our guests arrived. (In fact I was vacuuming the kitchen when the doorbell rang!) So there was no time to load the photos here. Perhaps you can save any ideas you like to a Pinterest board for next year.
The red and black of the Falcons’ uniform was obviously an easy color scheme to implement here. So I put it everywhere that didn’t already have it. 🙂 The take home treats were bags of roasted peanuts in the referee-striped cups tied with a red ribbon.
I also jazzed up the cabinet in the family room with some extra red and black.
And of course the mantel in the family room had to have its share of football accessories as well.
I found those trophy looking vases at Michaels (at 40% off! 🙂 ) and I’m sure they will get good use around here.
Simply swapping out the photos in the frames for some Falcons prints was an easy way to add a little game day decor.
For easy access, we set up the beverage area on the game table in the family room. Remember I took these photos yesterday as I finished decorating each area. So the empty red bucket held ice during the game.
Super Bowl commercials are always a favorite part of the game. When I came across these printable bingo cards on Pinterest, I knew it would be fun for everyone to play. I did a little research and came up with a number of companies who would likely have ads during the game. (That’s the list on the big clipboard.) Everyone just chose 24 and filled in the spaces on their card with them.
I had planned to use sticky note flags as markers on the boards (so they would not move during the game) but we used our pencils instead to mark out the squares that had the companies as the ads came on. Much simpler!
And now to the dining room. This is the table set up ready for the party (without all the food obviously.) I wanted to make a tissue paper garland to go above the window, but I ran out of time before I could get it made. (I seem to always have more ideas than time!)
A little flag was added to the cupboard after the table was set…
and the cabinet got one too.
Early last week, I sat down to plan the menu for this get-together. Then I went back to a Super Bowl party post I had written a couple of years ago to see what we served then. Amazingly, it was the exact same menu! So in order to not be “stuck in a rut,” I totally changed direction and went with this instead:
And after the first few guests served their plates, I remembered to take a photo of the table with the actual food on it (minus what they already had on their plates.)
Even though the Falcons lost, we still had a fun time together. (But the first half of the game was much more enjoyable than the second.) All of us wore our red and black for the game…
(the girl pup who looked like a “boy” in her jersey.) 🙂
I hope the Falcons make it back to the Super Bowl next year (and I can reuse all my accessories! 🙂 )Now on to Valentine’s Day decorating!
Hope your week is off to a great start!
Until next time…
