Talk of the Weekend #15

Spring Island kitchensource

Goodness what a busy weekend!  A dinner party…a full day of taking down all the Christmas decor (finally!)…and more that I will fill you in on next week. So yes, this week’s Talk of the Weekend is so late that it is going to have to be your Talk of the Monday Morning. 🙂

Just a few totally random things I think you will like…

Spring Island home screened

The kitchen at the top of the post and the screened porch above are both from a gorgeous house you should see here.

Great article that is a love letter to Mitford for all of us Jan Karon fans here.

Mary Kay Andrews Beach Town summer 2015

Beach Town

The title for Mary Kay Andrews’ newest novel (available in September) is finally out! 🙂

farmhouse kitchen Decatur GAsource

Downton Abby display at the

Super bowl party

Are you making plans to host a Super Bowl party next weekend?  Here are some ideas for decorating (like the party above)…

And these chocolate chip cookie dough footballs look like something fun and delicious for your party!

Southern Lady magazine article on former Vera Bradley Inn check sources

I found an article on the old Vera Bradley Inn in Seaside, Florida that we talked about last week.  I thought you might enjoy seeing a few more photos and reading a little bit more about its former life.  Check it out here.

Nora Murphy calendar

And finally, if you haven’t checked out Nora Murphy’s beautiful website, hurry over and do so now!  She even has free downloads for 3 different gorgeous calendars for you.  I know you will love them!

And that is all the randomness I have for you on this late Sunday night.  I hope your weekend has left you refreshed and ready for the last week of January. 🙂

Until next time…

Love the Super Bowl spread and especially the chalkboard! I am so excited to go see the Downton Abbey exhibit at Biltmore

Louvina - January 28, 2015 - 5:50 pm

Enjoyed the random wanderings of this post! I have not had time look at all of it as I have been randomly doing a lot of different things myself! But at my happy place beachside– even if it is down in the 30’s and only 55 degrees today. Going to look at some little beach houses tomorrow– little in size but not in price!:)Going to have Chinese or NY Pizza for Super Bowl Sunday. Always wanted to have a party but never did. I do like to look at all the great ideas though—How does it feel having your house back to normal? Looking forward to the next post!

Garden, Home & Party - January 27, 2015 - 11:03 pm

Sorry to be so late to the party. So many pretty rooms, as always. Oh my, this Super Bowl party spread raises the bar. I plan on fixing Mr. B and me some great game food, but these treats are tempting.
Thanks for the link the new site and great looking calendars.

Kelly: Check this out: Downton Abbey

There is something here to interest everyone, it isn’t just the show. Even if you aren’t a fan of the show, you have to see that period in our history in the display!

Dawn - January 26, 2015 - 5:57 pm

After you mentioned Downton Abbey the last time my Mother-in-law told me she had bought every season and asked me if I would like to borrow it? She said she knew I would love it since I had been to Biltmore and told them they just had to visit since it was from my favorite time period. I fell in love with Downton Abbey and my Mother-in-Law bought me the Biltmore Christmas book when they toured it a second time. So now I can’t wait to watch the next season! I am also looking forward to the next Mary Kay Andrews book as well. I love to read her books in the summer time when I can dream of being at the beach. Thanks for sharing all of the sweet inspirations above! I love that porch with the stained screen doors next all that white. It looks so relaxing! I hope you got much accomplished this week so your week will be less stressful. Keeping your Father-in-law in my prayers. Take care.
Being such a big fan of the show, you really should make a trip to the Biltmore to see the exhibit. It sounds like something you would absolutely love Dawn. Thank you for the prayers for my father-in-law. He is home and trying to regain his strength after being in the hospital for so long.

Barbara (WA) - January 26, 2015 - 11:50 am

Very fun randomness, Kelly! That first kitchen is to die for – I think my whole downstairs would fit within, heh. Speaking of dying, the playoff came for us Hawks fan almost did us in – oy! We aren’t hosting for the Super Bowl but those treats are so cute. Not sure I’ll be able to eat before and during the game! Have your sons caught the 12th man fever?
I had only watched the first of that game and thought the Hawks weren’t going to pull it out, but goodness they did! Our sons have not really caught the fever since they are more fans of basketball (and our middle son is now back home with us until he starts a job in May.) But I imagine our oldest is enjoying the spirit of the city (and hopefully a Super Bowl watching party this weekend.)
I know you will enjoy the game!

Debra - January 26, 2015 - 9:28 am

Porch envy continues….and with a fireplace. Ugh! Just lovely. My ultimate dream.. 🙂 I’ve always wanted to go see the Biltmore. Sigh! The Biltmore and all those beautiful Downton costumes. How fun would that be. Maybe they would be displayed in Chicago?? I could hope. Well, have a pleasant week ahead. Now let me just refresh my coffee and I am off to indulge with more “visual goodness” at the Nora Murphy site. Thank you! 🙂
Yes, I dream of a porch with a fireplace too, Debra…one day. 🙂 My daughter loved all the museums in Chicago, so it is entirely possible that the Downton display might come your way.

Arlene@Nanaland - January 26, 2015 - 9:16 am

I want that house in Decatur, GA!! It is not good enough that I live in Decatur, AL. While we were at Biltmore after Christmas, we saw one dress that was to be part of the collection. It was one that was worn by Lady Violer( Maggie Smith). I am obsessed with Biltmore. I want to see it at every season of the year!!
No, I am afraid it is not good enough that you live in Decatur, AL. Perhaps they can move the house for you, Arlene. 🙂 (But then you would miss all the great restaurants that are in Decatur, GA.) I would love to see the Biltmore at Christmas. I know it had to be gorgeous!

Susan - January 26, 2015 - 6:59 am

Love, love, love the houses you post and since we are moving back SOUTH I am revisiting many of your older posts for ideas to use in our new home. I visited the Downton exhibit at Winterthur in Delaware and it is fabulous. A must see! The exhibit at Wintherthur displayed costumes and items from the show along with outfits worn by the Duponts and their staff. It was very nicely done. The gift shop sold everything imaginable Downton and many of the tourist left dressed as their favorite character. Very fun and funny!
Another person who has seen the exhibit! Wow! How funny that the tourists left dressed in costumes. 🙂 I would have gotten photos of THAT!

Kim @ Vintage Pretties - January 26, 2015 - 6:58 am

I second Nan’s advice on the Downton exhibit. I also saw it in DE & it was amazing!! You get to see the costumes up close, see how they looked on screen vs. in person and find out how they mix old clothing & new construction to make the costumes. Very worth it.
You are so lucky to have already seen the exhibit Kim! We are jealous. 🙂

Nan, Odessa, DE - January 26, 2015 - 6:40 am

I encourage everyone to take advantage of the Downton Dressing! It was here in Wilmington, DE for many months and is DEFINITELY worth seeing. Make a date with a daughter, friend, etc and get it on your calendar.

So enjoyed Jan Karon’s latest. The series is a good read.

Kelly, always enjoy your post!
Nan, thank you for giving us a heads up on the exhibit and your recommendation. We just might have to plan a trip to The Biltmore for this one. 🙂 I am glad you enjoyed the Mitford post.

Shirley@Housepitality Designs - January 26, 2015 - 6:23 am

Another great Talk of the Weekend…Love your football themed food buffet!….so very creative!…and will have to check out the Dressing Downton event at The of my very favorite places…Have a great week and anxious to hear about “the more”
Thank you Shirley! Wish we could make it to the Downton exhibit at the Biltmore. I am excited to share “the more,” but it will be near the end of the week before I can share it with you all (very busy week this week.)

Gracia @ Gracious Offering - January 25, 2015 - 11:43 pm

Kelly, love your Talk of the Weekend posts…always fun eye candy with some beautiful homes! The Super Bowl party buffet inspires some ideas for the game next Sunday. As I’m sure your sons have told you, Seattle is Seahawks crazy! We love our Hawks! The article about Jan Karon’s Mitford series was a good read. Thanks for sharing it all!
So glad you appreciated all the “randomness” Gracia. Yes, Seattle is loving their Hawks! It must be very fun to be there now. I hope it will be fun after the game this weekend too. 🙂
