Some Fun for the 4th of July

How about a little fun for the 4th?  I worked this evening on putting these photos into a slide show with music to give you a peek at summer around here.  Then I decided it would be easier to throw all the photos on here and faster for you to scroll through.  So here’s what I want you to do for your ultimate enjoyment:).  I didn’t want patriotic music with these.  (You can get all you want of that on the radio today.)  I wanted something upbeat that sounded like summertime.  Just click here and either skip the ad or let it play through.  Leave Youtube playing while you come back here to scroll through the photos.  Got all that?  Hope you enjoy these random scenes of summer…

A stack of books in the bedroom

Strawberries with pound cake and real whipped cream…yum.

My bike with its basket full of geraniums

An old house (that I love!) downtown

Making the Barefoot Contessa red velvet cupcakes

Daughter with Cooper in his spiffy new patriotic collar

Making home-made ice cream

It turned out a little soupy, but…

it was still good on this.

The back porch swing

Our downtown shopping area

Another random view of the basket on my bike (a couple of weeks later.)

Daughter’s bed with some summer throw pillows.  I made that front one from an old Gap t-shirt she had when she was 3.  Wonder if I could get Cooper to pose like that so I could take his picture?

Another old home downtown decorated for the 4th of July

Grilled hotdogs for dinner (I like mine charred almost black.)

Drumstick ice cream for dessert.  I love Drumsticks – especially that last bite full of the chocolate in the cone! (Why are there so many food photos in this?)

Watermelon…more food..looks like all we do is eat around here!

Sparklers – we ran out of matches, so she had to start lighting them on the grill…probably not the safest thing in the world to do, right?

Flag at the front porch

And finally, if you want to hear a different version of a song that is typically played on this day, go here. (Let John Mayer finish his song first though.) Tim Hawkins is so funny he makes me laugh out loud!  I think you will enjoy him too.

Hope you are having a happy 4th of July!

Hi Kelly, what a treat!!! Oh, where to begin…The music added so much and the pictures were so beautiful! (Of course, the ones with your daughter were the most beautiful!) Your home is so gorgeous! And the downtown, oh, my! my heart was all aflutter(?) You took such beautiful pictures, as well! (sorry for using the word “beautiful” so much, I really need to get a larger assort. of adjectives) I Esp. love the food shots :-)
Love drumsticks as well but I can never eat the last little piece of the icecream cone because my mom once found a dead bug at the tip! (sorry for that little info) What color is your wicker swing, I love it! Also, is Cooper a Beagle? He’s a very nice looking dog(I just didn’t want to say beautiful again!)
And, finally, the Chic-fa-lay song was hilarious! A perfect 4th of July post!

Yay you listened to the music Kim! Thank you for saying my daughter’s pictures were beautiful. I’m a little biased. Ha ha. Our downtown does dress up well when it puts its mind to it. You did NOT have to tell me about the bug in the drumsticks – ew! (I’m still going to eat that last bite though and block your info from my mind.) All of the wicker is painted the same color as the house – Pelham Gray. Glad you liked it on the swing. Cooper IS a beagle, and I guess that is why he likes to howl all night. So glad you listened to Tim Hawkins too. Isn’t he funny??! Thank you so very much for reading all of my randomness and leaving all your kind words here. Hope your 4th of July is a super one!

Hey Kelly, what a great post! Enjoyed the music with your beautiful pictures. And Tim was funny. Your home looks great decked for the 4th. What a lovely time y’all had! Everything looks yummy. Your daughter is very beautiful! How fun to ride your cute bike through your town! I’ve never been there, looks pretty. Have a great weekend -Robin

love it all!! from the charred hotdogs {my favorite way to eat them too. if i recall correctly, we both like our cookies a little burnt too! :) } to the flowers in your bike basket. looks like a perfect july 4th celebration!! xoxo
ps. now i’m starving.

Thanks Robin! Isn’t Tim a hoot? I’ll pass your compliment on to my daughter. That bike of mine stays parked here nicely decorated, but my car goes to town. ha ha. My son is a BIG fan of biking, and the first thing he wants to do with the money he is saving is buy a new bicycle (more expensive than his car!) I should get out and ride my husband’s bike for some exercise. Thanks for reading and leaving your kind comments!

Glad you liked it all Tessa! Yep, I eat most things a little burnt. Tried a med-well the other day on a steak and just did not like it. Your 4th looked like a good one too over on your blog. Loved all the patriotic parade stuff! Very cute. Thank you for stopping by!

First…do I ever have a son for that little beauty!!! Your daughter is a doll!
Second…what were we talking about?
OH! Those ice cream cones…help me…I took Mama one…and she is asking for them weekly now…and my aunt, I took her one and now she is wanting more…I told them the last bite was the best! They are cracking me up though…both in their eighties, having always pushed veggies at me, now showing their true colors LOL! They both say that dipping ice cream is too difficult when your shoulders hurt. We don’t think about things like that until they happen to us :/
Well, I love all your Americana and I’ll listen later b/c my husband is watching t.v. :)

Kelly, your pics are making me hungry for a late night snack! Everything looked so magazine worthy for your celebration!

Kelly - July 5, 2012 - 11:23 pm

Phyllis, I don’t think my daughter’s boyfriend would like me fixing her up with someone else (but good try though!) Your mama and aunt obviously know what good food is, don’t they? Wish I could figure out what kind of chocolate is in the end of those drumsticks so that I could make my own. The box of 8 barely lasts 2 days around here! Hope you get a chance to listen to Tim Hawkins. You will love him!

Elizabeth – go fix yourself a bowl of ice cream! I’m contemplating it right now, and it is almost 11:30 p.m. (might help me get the next blog post finished!) Glad you liked all the celebration photos even if they were totally random. Thank you for the sweet compliment!

Kelly
