Looking for a Bathroom

ruemag

Don’t you just love that title?  I thought it was a little better than “Pretty Potties.”:)  I guess you have figured out that today’s post is going to be about bathrooms.

That is not our bathroom in the photo above.  Our master bathroom is “alright.”  It is not a large space (remember I call this house a cottage,) but it has some good bones – a pedestal sink, a clawfoot tub, beadboard on a portion of the wall, and some nice old pieces of furniture for storage and display.  I do like our bathroom, but I think it is time to tweak it some.   So I have been looking for bathroom inspiration.  I think our trim is what really needs the work more than anything…and maybe new drapes are also needed..

I like the lights in the photo above- but I think they are a little too rustic for our master bath.  I also like the trim on the upper part of the baseboard (where it meets the beadboard.)

The height of the beadboard on this next one is wonderful, but I know we are not going to redo that.  It would involve more than tweaking.  Now the top part of that beadboard is totally do-able (and what I need to show my husband), and I also like the way the window is trimmed out.

There are already framed black and white photographs in there now, but these looooong ones would be great!  I also think it is time to replace my hooks with towel bars (again.)

The trim on the baseboard here is a little too simple for what I am looking for, but I do like the assortment of framed pictures.

I had contemplated putting up horizontal planking above the beadboard, but then I thought it might look a little strange (like trying to combine two styles that don’t play well together.)  But this shows that it would actually look good…hmmm…need to show this to my husband too.:)

Of course the beauty in this one is the gloriously large window (which I do not have,) but I like those planked walls – and the simplicity of this space.

I couldn’t have a post without including a room from an inn, right?:)  No seriously, I was admiring the towel racks in the Bedford Post Inn bathroom here.  I also love that tub, but we aren’t about to change that out.

Ohhh beadboard on the ceiling!!  What I am really thinking about copying from this is that built-in storage behind the tub.

That wallpaper is a gorgeous blue!  THAT would certainly tweak the space some.  I’m really looking at the baseboard trim again though and the lighting.

For some reason, I have always loved this bathroom photo.  Maybe it’s the shutter outside the window and the seashell prints making me want to be at the beach.  Who knows?  Lots of ideas to steal from this one…the light fixtures, the walls, the built out shelf, and the table.

That’s all the eye candy I have for now…going to find my husband to see which of these inspires him.

I’ll take one of each! ;-) I really love the one with the planks going different ways…it seems like it would be busy, but it actually adds interest/texture to the white. Now where are the pictures of your bathroom? Let’s see it!

Yes to those long pictures! Love them.

And the blue wallpaper…so pretty!

I’m in the process of redoing the boys bathroom, as I type this new flooring is going down. After looking at these pics I’m feeling more inspired. The photographs/frames (neat idea), the black painted mirror (thinking I might have to use that) and the lighting are the things I need to focus on to personalize and dress up their space. Great ideas…..thanks for sharing….guess I’m off to work on the bathroom!

Aimee. your house must be tremendous if you can put in all of these bathrooms! :) I too thought the two different wood styles wouldn’t work well (man at the alliteration here!), but I think since it is all the same color it worked. You want to see my bathroom? Still working on it. How about a peek at the half bath to hold you over a week?

Isn’t that blue wallpaper a real attention getter, Phyllis? I love it, but I don’t think I am ready to commit to paper again…tooooooo much time putting it up and taking it down in my past. I can’t even keep track of how much wallpapering I did in the first house we built. I think one of your rooms has an identical wallpaper to the paper in my mother’s dining room…cream with a lightly designed floral?

Katherine, sounds like you are off to a good start on your sons’ bathroom! Glad the photos were helpful. Those framed group shots are some of my favorite prints…need to be on the lookout for them in antique shops, but I am surprised no one has made knockoffs. I bet they would sell well! Lowes had some very neat barn type lights (sconces) out of oil rubbed bronze when I was in there the other day. Don’t know if they would work in your house but they were awfully cute!
