I’m Dreaming of a White Kitchen

Nantucket Home Traditional Home Magazine

I am getting together a post on all the changes to the kitchen in this house, but it is requiring some digging to find the “before” pictures – since there have been a zillion transformations of it in the 16 years we’ve lived here. (The one above is unfortunately not my kitchen.)  So while I am in the kitchen-looking frame of mind, I thought I would entertain you with some photos of some other kitchens, and I will keep digging through the photo boxes.  I am going to start with white kitchens and save the ones with color for another time.  Let’s take a look at some of these beauties.

I am not a big fan of the baskets in this one, but those windows and the island with open shelving make me jealous.  I wonder how that lamp plugs in ….. hmmm….a hole in the island countertop?

Historical Concepts Good Housekeeping September, 2009

There’s lots to love in this one….the floors… the upper doors with glass… that island!

Historical Concepts BHG August, 2008

Or how about this small one?  That countertop…gorgeous!!

Historical Concepts Home October, 2004

This has been one of my favorites since it appeared in Southern Living a while back.  It just looks so lived in and has classic details.  The lighting here really makes it for me (remember I am addicted to light)…double sconces, hanging pendants….

Southern Living Jamie McPherson

There is a lot going on in this next one, but I wanted you to see the ceiling and the way the island is designed. Isn’t that smart?

Architectural Digest

The ceiling design on this one is also unusual, and I really like those glass door cabinets that face each other…another idea worth copying.

More cabinets with glass doors…and more wooden countertops…

Country Living Magazine

No glass doors here, but beautiful open shelving and there’s that wooden countertop again.

Maybe these can hold you over for a little while.  If you are like me, pretty kitchens are always candy for the eyes…love ‘em!

Hi Kelly,
Beautiful kitchens! It would be hard to decide if you had to pick just one, maybe bits and pieces from each of them?…Ok, that’s what I want!

Kim I could cook (and eat!) in any of these, but you’re right…bits and pieces – the best of each- would make for an extraordinary kitchen!

LOVE these! Are we reading each other’s minds? I’m trying to pull together a post called “Anatomy of a Kitchen Makeover.” I can’t wait to see your before and afters!!! :)

Great minds think alike Aimee! I can’t wait to see my befores and afters too, since that will mean that I FOUND all the before photos! :) I MUST do a better job organizing my photographs. We lost a bunch of the ones on the computer when it crashed…I used to never back up my files. Learning to do better. I can’t wait to see YOUR kitchen makeover (and you may beat me to it at the rate I’m going!)
So glad you loved these.

I am dreaming of a white kitchen too! We have oak everywhere and I am gradually trying to talk my hubs into either letting me paint or get new cabinets. Then I feel guilty that I want them when there are others who really need things. Ugh.

Kelly,

I have cherry wood countertops, kelly, and I love them. I even have large, vintage wooden knobs like those in the photo from Traditional Home. I love my wooden countertops, but I am usually dreaming of marble. You know how it is, the grass is always greener! donnape

I’m dreaming of re-doing a kitchen! Love the white, too. Gives me lots of ideas and things to dream about! Your blog is amazing…I’m so glad that you are using this as an outlet for your amazing talent! I’ve always been a fan : )

Susan- Painting the cabinets really makes a difference in the feel of the room, and although it takes a lot of time, it’s not really that difficult. But you are right, it is difficult to justify our desires when there is so much need in this world.

Michelle – Thank you for stopping by! I have tried kitchens of every color and style, but I always seem to gravitate back to the white one. It is definitely a classic.

Lindsay – SO glad you found me! And glad you loved the kitchen inspiration!

Tessa – Seriously? The brass lights from Jamie McPherson’s kitchen? I am SO very jealous!!!!!!!

Donnape – Cherry wood countertops and vintage wooden knobs would be gorgeous. And yes, the grass is always greener, and with Pinterest, there’s a lot of “grass” to see out there!

Thank you all for your comments!

Thank you Katherine for your super sweet words here!! I’ll bring on a few more kitchens for you to look at for ideas in a day or two. Kitchens are always the most fun things to redo to me (except of course if you are having to live and cook in it while you are redoing it…that’s NOT fun.) Thanks for reading and jumping in the conversation!

Hi, Kelly, thanks for stopping by & checking out my home renovation. It is going to be a major project, but I’m so excited. Cumberland Mall is not that far from me, same side of town. Do you live in ATL too?

I love what I see on your blog already, you are off to a great start. I hope you enjoy your blog journey as much as I have. It has truly changed my life in SO many ways!! Take care & hope to see you again.

Kelly - May 17, 2012 - 11:03 pm

Wow Rhoda! Thank you for taking the time to stop by! I know your renovation is keeping you and your family hopping. No, I am not in Atlanta…a couple of hours away. The traffic of Atlanta scares me, and I am amazed that my son can handle it. Thank you for the compliment on my blog. I’ll be checking up on your home redo again soon.
Take care!
Kelly
