Bedrooms to Love

hookedonhouses.net

Hope you all are having a good week!  I was in Pottery Barn the other day looking at accessories and things for our bedroom.  I came out with a couple of pillows for it, so I hope to post a few pictures of that room later in the week.  In the meantime, I thought it would be fun to look at some pretty bedrooms I have found.  I know you will recognize the first one up there from the movie Something’s Gotta Give.  It’s so beautiful, maybe that is the only photo I need to post today!:)

Well, maybe we do need to see a few others.  Let’s start with a couple of blue rooms.  I really like the bed in this one.

I also like the bed in this one too.urban grace via houseofturquoise.com

Do you have a bench at the foot of your bed?  We don’t because there is no space, but I would love to have one if it would fit there.

Now let’s look at a few bedrooms with neutral color schemes.  There’s an interesting piece at the foot of this bed.

The stained wood really adds a lot in this next bedroom, and the bed has very similar lines to the one in the second photo.  Doesn’t it?

One thing I like to keep in mind when thinking about a master bedroom, is that it is a bedroom for two people.  For this reason, I don’t usually like a room that is too feminine.  I just can’t see my husband liking a room full of ruffles and frills.  For us, the room needs to be a mixture.  This next one has masculine elements, but it is balanced by the feminine canopy.

But I know that room is too dark for me.  What do you think of this yellow one?  I like the plank walls and gingham upholstered bed.  The tailored lines of the drapes keep it from being too feminine.

I have to include a couple of Sarah Richardson’s rooms.  I just love her style, (and I know you have seen these over and over again.)  The yellow in the quilt here really adds to the look.

And another one by her that again uses a quilt.countryliving.com

I also think Melanie Davis does great design work.  She uses a quilt for a bright accent in this Georgia house.

The last one I want to share with you is my favorite, and it is quite old. Gary McBournie did the design, and I love that mix of patterns!

When I was working on my Pinterest dream house post, I searched through many images on my Pinterest boards.   Surprisingly, I found a common thread between a large number of my favorite bedrooms – the color.  Most are blue, and even beyond that, many have a dose of red in them for accent.  Seeing the group of photos together and really studying them, helped me to see this.  I truly had no idea.  So if you are thinking of redecorating, go study your Pinterest boards…it really may help you find a decorating direction!

Those bedrooms appeal to me too. Ours is a mix of neutrals, all creams & whites, with a pop of turquoise for accent. I need to get the ties finished on my linen slipcovered headboard so I can show it…

I can’t wait for you to share your bedroom, I know it will be beautiful,

Judy your bedroom sounds lovely…especially with the linen slipcovered headboard. I have always thought they were so pretty. Go get that finished so you can show all of us! :)

All of these rooms are beautiful. I, too, would love to have a bench at the foot of the bed, and I even have two benches “on standby” (in use in other rooms), but I can’t quite make the space work yet. I’m working on it, tho!

Hi Kelly! What beautiful bedrooms you have chosen to tantalize all of us with! Obviously, the first photo is my favorite :-) I also like the really dark room…kinda romantic! I use to have creamy yellow walls in our bedroom but after so many years of looking at them they began to nauseate me, ha ha! I’m with you about the looking too feminine thing…I think our room is pretty neutural in that regard – still looking for pictures for the walls that we will both like!- Oh, maybe that can be a post someday!!!

Paula I love the “benches on stand-by”. Too funny! Good luck with getting one in your bedroom. There is no way I can do that here unless I give up my entire dresser full of clothes, and that’s not likely to happen. What I would really like in my room is a big secretary of some kind…maybe one day. Thank you for joining in the conversation today.

Kim, I thought the same thing about that dark bedroom…very romantic. I have gotten addicted to hanging black and white photos of our family everywhere. So I would hope that my husband likes them!

Lovely bedrooms! Do you remember the bedroom Sarah Richardson did on Hgtv with the yellow quilt she and Tommy found at the flea market? I loved that room.

Kelly - July 13, 2012 - 7:51 am

Oh yes, Susan. I adore Sara’s style! A lot of what she does is actually sleek and modern, but the rooms I like best from her are the ones with the quilts in them.

I really like several of these bedrooms. I do love blue and white accents in a bedroom. I also like the upholstered head and foot board in the House Beautiful photo. Our master bedroom doesn’t afford space for a bench at the end of the bed, I wish it did!

Karen, I am right there with you in wanting space for a bench at the foot of the bed. We even added 3 feet to that dimension in the room when we were drawing up plans for it. Guess I wouldn’t have even had room for the dresser if we had not done that!

I found your blog through another one and I’m in heaven! I loved your post so I spent the better part of the day going through and reading every post you’ve ever written. I love everything from your content, your way with words, to how your blog is designed! I’ve added you to my favorites in my bookmarks, and will definitely be stopping by a lot!

Lindsay - July 16, 2012 - 4:59 pm

Such beautiful bedrooms! My master bedroom has just been sitting unfinished for so long. Why is it that we leave that one for so long while we do everything else?? I’m inspired by these to get busy on it. Thanks, Kelly!

Kelly - July 16, 2012 - 7:37 pm

Lynne – You are too sweet. Your comments just made my day!! So glad you liked the blog (and the design – yippee – I am sooooo low in my tech knowledge – Customizing it was a big accomplishment for me!) Please do come back to visit again. :)

Lindsay – I think we leave our master bedrooms for last because we are the only ones who go in them. We really ought to do them first so that we have a pampering place to retreat to at the end of a day (but I totally understand wanting the “visited” rooms to look their best.) Glad you were inspired by these, and good luck with getting yours done!
