A Valentine’s Day House Tour

Happy Day of Love! ย I hope you are having a fun day filled with cards, candy, and all sorts of sweetness! What could be better than celebrating a day of love? (Certainly what we seem to need in our society today.) I have a house full of red to show you….and there is actually a method to my madness here. ย So grab your cup of coffee, and let’s get started! ๐Ÿ™‚

We finally went to see Hidden Figures at the theater the other week. ย (LOVED it by the way!) While we were there, I decided that going to the movies is probably my most favorite thing to do…but of course it has to include popcorn and a box of candy to be the full experience. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to give everyone a movie, some popcorn, and a box of candy for their Valentine treats this year. ย Here are all the supplies I used.

I found the 4-films-in-one-box at Target. ย I put the candy and unpopped popcorn in the popcorn box and then tied them all together with some red twine and a small tag I printed on tagboard.

They are going beside each place setting for tonight’s dinner.
(Each guest’s name is on the back so I know who is getting which film. ๐Ÿ™‚ )

One thing led to another, and since the gifts were movie related, well… you know I had to follow that theme with everything else. ๐Ÿ™‚

Like the table centerpiece for example.

I found all the film related things at Hobby Lobby except for the clapperboard (the director’s clipboard.) ย It came from our local Party Store.

We’ll be serving our dinner tonight from the kitchen, so we can leave the centerpiece on the table while we eat.

I placed popcorn boxes all around for props.
(Our poor puppy just keeps sniffing the air. ย I know she is smelling popcorn!)

The jar in the cabinet holds chocolate drizzled popcorn, and it is soooo good!

And of course we had to have a jar of movie candy. ๐Ÿ™‚
(I’ll have the Junior Mints, please.)

Now moving on into the kitchen, there really isn’t much new to see.
It just has its normal red accessories…which happen to work well with Valentine’s Day.

ย I did add a popcorn box and some Cokes to the cabinet above the kitchen desk for a touch of movie fun.

And there is a popcorn related recipe on the kitchen chalkboard.

Before we go in any of the other nearby rooms, let’s take a look at a couple of rooms in the bedroom wing. ย The master bedroom is still dressed in red from Christmas.

I found the lumbar pillow with the black hearts at Target
(and bought several of them!)

Do all of your stores have as many tulips out as ours seem to be carrying? ย I think they are going to replace roses for the most popular Valentine’s Day choice! ย Love those red tulips!

And gerbera daisies (in red) are also a favorite of mine.
(I actually like them even better than tulips!)

Now let’s go back to the other side of the house. The love pillow on the bench below is the back side of one of those black heart lumbar pillows like in the master bedroom. ย The fact that they are reversible makes me like them even more!

We haven’t been in the playroom in a while, but I put a bit of movie themed items in there. ย So I wanted you to see it all.

If you have been following along on Instagram, you have already seen the sneak peek of our “Romantic Movie chalkboard.” I still say You’ve Got Mail is my all time favorite romantic movie. ย Our daughter loves Philadelphia Story. ย (And I can’t believe I left Love Story off that chalkboard! Duh.)

The smaller one has movie couples.
See if you know to which movie each of them belongs. ๐Ÿ™‚

Did you figure out all of them? From the playroom we’re going into the family room…where there is yet another black lumbar pillow with hearts on it.

The mantel has just a touch of movie accessories.

My collection of old cameras seemed to go with the look of it all.

Two more Valentine pillows (from Target) are on the sofa.

And there is a bit more popcorn and a few vintage cameras on top of the family room cabinet.

And finally, we are going to head out through the foyer. ย I have done this “tour” backwards – starting in the dining room – because I was afraid you wouldn’t understand the theme if I didn’t start it there.

The take-away gift for this month is a Coke and popcorn tied up with ribbon and a tag. ย (These are for anyone, not just our dinner guests tonight.)

And if I could hand one of these goodies to you through the computer, I would! Just to thank YOU for popping in to visit the blog today…and all the other days you spend your valuable time here. ย I appreciate you so much for doing that!

I hope you have enjoyed seeing the house decked out in red once again, and I also hope you have a lovely Valentine’s Day today!

Until next time…

I’m a day late and a Valentine short on visiting your post. What fun! I love the idea and have filed this in “how to host a great holiday” file. You always share the best ideas. Thank you.

Cindy - February 15, 2017 - 7:55 am

Oh my goodness, Kelly! You outdid yourself but then again, I love every ‘theme’ that you share with us. Your guests are fortunate to be invited to such a welcoming, comfortable home. I’m thinking that many of us will be using some of these ideas.

Teri - February 15, 2017 - 12:22 am

I loved this tour! Thanks for sharing all your cute ideas. Can I ask where you got your picture frames. Ii love the simple black frames with the large white mat.
Hi Teri! All those simple black picture frames came from Michaels. They are called Format Museum Frames. I have never ordered them, but I see they are available from here:,393.html Hope this helps!

Sherry M - February 14, 2017 - 10:10 pm

The Queen of Themes..and I love it, just perfect for the Day of Love! What’s more romantic than a sweet movie with the one or ones you love, or special friends? Except maybe those sweet and salty treats, which puts the icing on the cake of your decor. Great pillows!! The red and white eye candy is something I never get tired of. I think maybe the playroom should be renamed the FUN room. That’s what I think of every time we are invited in. Love it! I noticed the Marley book in the bedroom. Appropriate. I always enjoy the way you display books and include them as part of your decor. What a lovely way to conclude our tour, a wreath that symbolizes the love you put into making your house a welcoming home. Thanks for sharing, Kelly. Hope your Valentine’s Day was all you hoped it would be.

Jae - February 14, 2017 - 9:28 pm

I really enjoy your blog. Thank you for all your hard work!!

Rosemary - February 14, 2017 - 5:26 pm

Wishing you a very happy Valentines Day Kelly. Have fun with your family and friends. If possible, your house looks even more amazing than usual! :). Really bright and fresh. Tulips do see to be popular at the moment. I have a bunch my husband bought me a few days agoi in our bedroom. They look so cheery! I can’t imagine how long it took you to achieve all this, especially the film themed chalk boards. I know I’ve said this before but do you ever sleep? ๐Ÿ™‚ or maybe somehow your days are longer than mine!!
Take care and have a good week.

Love the movie theme and that front door wreath is so simple and yet elegant. I love how you use red coke bottles as part of the decorations. Your take away gifts are fun but that bowl of M&M’s would be enough of a gift for me! Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your family!

Cheri - February 14, 2017 - 2:10 pm

ADORABLE! I just love how you decorate and make a theme of it.

Wendy - February 14, 2017 - 1:57 pm

Wonderful Valentines Day decorations all throughout your house, Kelly! I was just looking at those popcorn holders today at a local store. Hmmm….you’re giving me ideas for sure!

Cheryl Johnson - February 14, 2017 - 11:48 am

You are creative…love your Valentine’s Day decorations and party ideas! You have inspired me to do some of these for my grandson’s 16th birthday party. Lots of possibilities! Thanks!
Have a blessed Valentine’s Day!

Bonnie - February 14, 2017 - 11:32 am

What a very fun way to include everyone in the family/household. So often, if someone isn’t in a romantic relationship, individuals tend to feel left out from the celebration of this day. Thanks for all your sweet ideas that share not only the romantic side (movies and famous couples) but including all of those that you love. Looks very ‘Valentine-y’!!

Lynn A. - February 14, 2017 - 11:28 am

Happy Valentine’s Day! Always love your house tours.

Kathy P. - February 14, 2017 - 11:23 am

As usual, your home is so beautiful and welcoming. Love all the pillows – will have to see if they have any left. Also, your front door decoration just lets you know you are about to enter the love in your home. Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day.

Sandy - February 14, 2017 - 11:10 am

I love the movie theme. I may have to steal that one from you at some point down the road. I still have the old 8mm projector and movie camera from the 60’s. I am what I call an organized packrat. I am sentimental and can’t throw things away. Fortunately, I have good storage closets. That projector, camera, and reels would make a great display. You have inspired me as you ALWAYS do.

Dawn - February 14, 2017 - 11:03 am

Happy St. Valentine’s day! I love your decorations as usual! My favorite room is that game room. i just love the green, black and white all together! I want to go in there, grab a snack and a drink, curl up and watch movies or read a good book! Thanks for sharing!

Marianne in Mo. - February 14, 2017 - 10:59 am

Well as usual, it’s over the top awesome! But that final shot of your front door wreath made me gasp! So pretty and simple, but striking! Happy Valentines Day to you and yours – hope your dinner is wonderful!

Denise Murchison - February 14, 2017 - 10:40 am

Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your blog. Your talent just abounds in each season and in each holiday. It is so inviting even through pictures. You really do have a great talent for everything.

Brenda S Moore - February 14, 2017 - 10:31 am

What color is the outside of your home painted? (cedar shake)
I am looking for a neutral w/out a yellow undertone and I live in Charlotte NC.
Same kind of weather and vegetation pretty much as where your home is.
Thank you for your posts. It is really interesting to go inside your home. Did it take you long to get over the invasion of privacy?

Happy Valentines.
Look forward to hearing back.

Hi Brenda!
Our home has been painted Pelham Gray – a Martin Senour paint, but we are currently repainting it this year. I did not want to go with the Martin Senour paint this time because our local store has closed. So we are using a Sherwin Williams – Emerald line paint (after MUCH research!) The color is Quiver Tan, and it is a great neutral…might have a bit too much green for you, but I am REALLY liking it.

Ruth - February 14, 2017 - 10:21 am

Your head is so full of fabulous ideas, and you carry them out so fully and so beautifully. I think you may have topped even yourself with the movie-themed Valentine’s decor! Thanks for sharing it all with us. Wishing you a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

Gina - February 14, 2017 - 10:21 am

How adorable!! I can see you being able to use all your movie themed accessories again and again for parties, etc. The pillows from Target too. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have always loved your hand lettering on your chalkboards and notes, etc. I would love to learn how to write like this! I guess I need to study yours and practice. ๐Ÿ˜‰

kay - February 14, 2017 - 10:08 am

Love the decorations! I agree with the movie, You’ve Got Mail is one of the greatest. Your list reminded me I still need to watch The Shop Around the Corner. Missed seeing the little sweetheart, Gabbie. Is she wearing a heart neckerchief today? I noticed the treat jar on the shelf has been taken over by doggie treats. Pets really do become a member of the family.

Brenda - February 14, 2017 - 9:57 am

I always love your chalkboard art! Would love a tutorial on how you get the lettering so perfect!!!! I also LOVE LOVE LOVE that wreath on your door — so festive!!!
You are too sweet Brenda! Thank you for the compliments. I have written a post on my chalkboard lettering here: I don’t know if it is exactly what you want, but at least it is a start. ๐Ÿ™‚

Louvina - February 14, 2017 - 9:54 am

I ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’• it all!! Such wonderful ideas! Just the right touch! There is so much love in your home– we can feel it out here in Blog Land! Of course I am wondering about your menu for dinner tonight!!? We are having guests and I ordered heart shaped pizza, along with salad and making a pink heart cake and a cherry pie! Have a LOVEly day and dinner!! ๐Ÿ’•you Kelly!!
Your menu sounds perfect Louvina. ๐Ÿ™‚ (And 2 desserts…that’s the best!) We grilled steaks and had baked potatoes, salad, rolls, and cheesecake (which I had my daughter pick up from Cheesecake Factory so I would not have to make it. ๐Ÿ™‚ )

Carolyn K - February 14, 2017 - 9:38 am

Your next career should be as a paid party planner. You always do it so well. Loved every bit of you blog today. If I had to choose, I would pick the red coke bottles and the front door decoration.๐Ÿ’•
Thanks for the great start to the day.

Kristy - February 14, 2017 - 9:29 am

Just lovely. As always–you have thought of everything! Thanks for sharing. (Would love to know what your menu is) I’m serving my version of CanCun (seafood burritos);hubby’s favorite dish from a long gone Mexican restaurant.
Happy Valentine’s Day.

Judy N - February 14, 2017 - 9:17 am

Your house looks so festive. On every floor, in every room, something that reminds us of Valentine’s Day. The red coke bottles were a fun addition. Where did you get them? I especially liked the boxwood wreath with the red heart insert in the final frame. Perfect way to end the tour!
Thank you so much Judy. The red cokes were at Target, but I have also seen them in the past at Walmart. They also make metal bottles of Sprite if you prefer that. ๐Ÿ™‚

Karen Aamodt - February 14, 2017 - 9:11 am

Hi Kelly, so what’s on the menu for dinner tonight? My friend Ruth always bakes a heart shaped meatloaf; covered in ketchup, lol! Her kids STILL love it after all these years. Those cute little white heart dishes are just crying out for something sweet and red!
What a great idea! I’ll have to remember that for next year! ๐Ÿ™‚ We had friends and family over and grilled steaks and had baked potatoes, salad, rolls, and cheesecake to go with them. The little white heart plates were for the salad.

Donnie - February 14, 2017 - 8:36 am

Delightful, as always, Kelly. Happy Valentines Day! You always make mine brighter.
